About Us

Our School

Ballygiblin N.S. is situated in the countryside, approximately three miles outside Mitchelstown on the Ballyporeen Road near Ballygiblin GAA pitch.  We are committed to providing a high standard of education in an inclusive setting for all children in our care, in keeping with our motto ‘Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh sí’.  In addition to our Class Teachers, we also have a dedicated team of Support Teachers and SNAs who cater for the additional needs that some children may present with.  Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and all children have access to school ipads and other assistive technology as required.

Ballygiblin N.S. is committed to participation in the Active School Flag, Health Promoting Schools and Green Flag initiatives which encourage the holistic development of all children.  Our facilities include a spacious playground area with a variety of playground equipment.  Children get the opportunity to participate in many sporting activities such as swimming, cycling, football, hurling, camogie, tag rugby, soccer and basketball.  Older children participate in orienteering, Sciath na Scol (GAA competitions), Cork City Sports (athletics), Swimming Gala and other events/competitions that are feasible to enter.  The highlight for 6th Class is the Annual Galtee climb in June.  The children are given the opportunity to try out as many varied activities as possible such as school quizzes, chess, zumba, music workshops, Lego engineering workshops, School of Fitness programmes and many more.

In 2018, we took part in many other initiatives such as Discover Primary Science and Maths Award (DPSM), Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP) and Cork Food Policy Council Sustainable Food Awards 2018.  The DPSM award increases interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) among children, parents and staff in our school.  As part of the programme we participate in Maths Week, Science Week, Computer Science Week, Engineers’ Week, Space Week and Tech week. Children also experience science activities outside the school and attend DPSM Centres such as Lifetime Lab in Cork.

Furthermore, the children in 5th/6th Class designed and created their product ‘The Positivity Box’ as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme.  It was a great success and the children experienced many entrepreneurial skills.  The children won a National Award (Star Submission) which was presented to them in June 2018 at the RDS, Dublin (Ballygiblin N.S. win Junior Entrepreneur ‘Star Submission’ Award). We also encourage entrepreneurship through the Annual School Féte in June which is run by the children (under parental supervision).

Ballygiblin N.S. is committed to working in partnership with the local community.  Súgradh Preschool is situated adjacent to our school providing a preschool service and after school homework club.
