The Discover Primary Science and Maths Award (DPSM)increases interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) among children, parents and staff in our school.  As part of the programme we participate in Maths Week, Science Week, Computer Science Week, Engineers Week, Space Week and Tech week. Children also experience science activities outside the school and attend DPSM Centres such as Lifetime Lab in Cork.

Engineers Week

Children participated in many fun activities for Engineers Week including presenting projects created for the STEPS Young Engineers Award, constructing buildings and objects using Lego/bricks, learning about different professions within engineering, investigating how to make wind turbines and making ice-cream.

Civil Engineering in Second Class

Second Class had great fun building their own houses for their S.E.S.E. project on homes. 

Olaf 2.0

Fourth and Fifth Class made a wonderful snowman using recycled materials. Olaf 2.0 looks cool:)

Trouser Patch for Sam

Fifth and Sixth Class did a fair test to find the best trouser patch for Sam. They made posters to display their results.

The Physics of Sound

Fifth and Sixth Class really enjoyed designing, making and testing sound proof boxes. Great work everyone:)

Maths Week 2019

Children engaged with many fun maths activities and games during Maths Week in October. Well done everyone:)

Crocus Project

Fifth & Sixth Class planted crocus bulbs in the courtyard. These will really help early feeding bees. Well done:) 

Butter Making in Fifth & Sixth Class

Great fun in Fifth & Sixth Class learning about the history of Mitchelstown Creamery & Dairygold. Their project which included a hands on butter making activity was enjoyed by all:)
